TRON network founder Justin Sun has asked X Corp owner Elon Musk to restore the Bitcoin hashtag emoji on X. Justin Sun also referred to the disappeared Bitcoin emoji as a tradition for the Bitcoin community.
On July 25, the crypto community noticed that bitcoin and other crypto hashtags lacked automatically generated emojis on X. Neither Elon Musk nor the social media platform announced the changes beforehand.
Other affected crypto projects included BNB, Crypto.com, and Cronos. The MAGA hashtag emoji featuring former president Donald Trump was also reportedly missing.
Jack Dorsey introduced the automatic emoji for Bitcoin hashtags in 2020 after collaborating with Unicode. However, the emoji was still not universally recognized on all social media platforms.
The coincidental timing led to more speculations as X removed the emojis on the first day of the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville.
Justin Sun believes X will bring back the emojis
In another tweet, Justin Sun highlighted Musk as a respected businessman who understands and protects the crypto and Bitcoin community. TRON’s founder stated that Elon Musk’s crypto endorsement came before Donald Trump’s. Justin believed that for this reason, Elon would bring back the emojis.
One user replied that X could be preparing for better emojis. Another X user, The Bitcoin Therapist, asked users to repost if they wanted Elon Musk to bring back the BTC hashtag emoji.
Some still believed that it was time for an independent universal digital symbol. The Head of Communications at Nexo, Eleonor Genova, described the Bitcoin hashtag emoji as a symbol of freedom.
Eleonor criticized X’s removal of the Bitcoin emoji, insisting on the need for an independent digital symbol. Genova added that she couldn’t accept that other forms of money had universal emojis, but there was no digital representation of crypto assets.
Justin Sun quotes Trump’s speech
Justin quoted former president Donald Trump’s speech on July 27 during the Bitcoin Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee. The TRON network’s founder mentioned Trump’s belief that Bitcoin’s market value could surpass gold.
The former president hinted that BTC’s current price movement could push the coin to surpass gold’s market cap. Trump added that most people did not know what Bitcoin is but hinted that widespread knowledge would change the coin’s growth.
“Most people have no idea what the hell it is…so what happens when they figure it out? That’s gonna really be something.”
–Donald Trump at the Bitcoin Conference
Trump explained that BTC is nearly overtaking silver in market capitalization. At the time of writing, BTC’s market cap was over $1.3 trillion, while silver’s was over $1.5 trillion. Gold, the top-performing commodity, has a market cap of over $16 trillion.
During the conference, Trump positioned himself at the forefront of crypto evolution in the U.S. He mentioned his plans to make the United States the crypto capital and a Bitcoin superpower. The former president also promised to fire the U.S. SEC chair, Gary Gensler, introduce more lenient crypto legislation and make Bitcoin part of the country’s strategic reserve.
